RECCSA was started in January 2017 by Rev Banele Christopher Mente after he had left the Church of Umzi Wase Tiyopiya of Southern Africa (CUWTSA) in December 2016.

He was followed by Rev Milile Justice Nzelani the same month (January 2017).

They convened together Launching Synod where they named the Church as RECCSA (Reformed Ethiopian Catholic Church of Southern Africa). In February 2017, they were joined by Rev Vuyisile Yedwa and Rev Lizo Michael Burwana.

The reason for the formation of RECCSA was to consider a better and a viable future for the Church. In consequence, RECCSA has launched on the 08th of January 2017 as a continuing IBANDLA LAMATIYOPIYA.

This is used by our church in 1899.
