As the RECCSA has recently consecrated two new Bishops, Bishop Linganisile Vincent Mente and Bishop Malusi Nicholas Gubu, in addition to Archbishop BC Mente, the House of Bishops is now re-established. The Archbishop and the Bishops are assisted in governing the Church by the College of Advisors at the National Church level, who provide support and guidance, and by the Diocesan Board at the Diocesan level, who assist in managing the affairs of the Diocese. The College of Advisors, also known as the Advisory Council, provides support and guidance to Archbishop BC Mente, Bishop Linganisile Vincent Mente, and Bishop Malusi Nicholas Gubu in their roles within the RECCSA.
The Bishops of this Church constitute a separate House of the National Synod, and, whenever they may judge it expedient, they can deliberate by themselves.
With the consecration of these newly consecrated Bishops, RECCSA is set to operate with enhanced governance, spiritual leadership, and oversight, ensuring the church maintains its mission, vision, and objectives across the Diocese, Archdiocese, and Province. The collective leadership of the House of Bishops will provide guidance, support, and direction, fostering unity and continuity while upholding the church's core beliefs and traditions.
Roles and Responsibilities The House of Bishops plays a vital role in the church, providing:
1. Leadership and Oversight: Spiritual leadership, guidance, and direction to clergy and laity, overseeing the church's overall spiritual well-being.
2. Doctrine and Liturgy: Defining and maintaining doctrine and liturgical practices, ensuring consistency with core beliefs and traditions.
3. Ministry and Mission: Overseeing the church's mission and ministry, guiding engagement with the wider world and addressing social issues.
4. Check and Balance: Providing a veto power to ensure decisions align with the church's fundamental principles.
5. Unity and Continuity: Fostering unity and continuity, providing a shared purpose and direction, and linking different congregations and dioceses.
The House of Bishops may have legislative powers, or serve in an advisory capacity, discussing and making decisions on matters of faith, practice, and church governance.
Whenever the House of Bishops shall withdraw to deliberate by themselves, leaving the Clergy and the Laity to deliberate together, or if at any time, whether or not the House of Bishops be present, the Clergy or the Laity decide by a majority vote of either of their two Houses to deliberate apart, the sitting of Synod shall be suspended during the progress of such separate deliberations. In the absence of the House of Bishops, the Prolocutor shall preside over any joint deliberations of the Clergy and the Laity, or over any separate deliberations of the Clergy, as the case may be; and the Chairman shall preside over any separate deliberations of the Laity. Upon the completion of such deliberations, the sitting of Synod shall be resumed, and the conclusions reached by any or all of the three Houses during the suspension of the sitting shall be reported to Synod.
